We strive to empower women to take control of their healthcare. Breast cancer risk assessments do exactly that by helping you harness the power of prevention.
Our understanding of genetics, genetic health risk and precision medicine has exploded in recent years thanks to new tools and new research. Our comprehensive Genetic Health Risk Assessment program, led by Dr. Lori White, is designed to help patients understand their future health risks, so they can be empowered to be proactive in their health. We use leading-edge tools to identify individuals at risk for health conditions by understanding their family history and, when appropriate, their genetics, to provide consultation and assistance in developing a screening and prevention plan specific to their needs. This is the personalized, proactive preventative medicine that every patient deserves.
Women are aware that screening for breast cancer with an annual mammogram is important, but an annual screening for breast cancer versus understanding personal risk of developing breast cancer are two vastly different things.
Most women know the statistic, “1 in 8,” or 12% of women will develop breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. However, many women are actually at much higher risk of developing breast cancer than the 12% risk of the general population – and they don’t know it.
Our Breast Cancer Risk Assessment consultation helps us identify women who have an increased risk of breast cancer. By doing so, we can provide education about ways to lower personal risk, make recommendations about the need for genetic testing, and discuss potential options for additional screening to detect cancer at its earliest stages. Our practice’s recommendation is that all women should have an individualized breast cancer risk assessment at around age 40.
Genetic testing is not included in the cost of the consult. Genetic testing may be covered by insurance. If not covered by insurance, cash pricing will be discussed and depends on the genetic testing ordered.
(Initial 1-hour consult $150; 30-minute follow-up $100)

One in 3 Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime, and up to 42% of cancers are caused by lifestyle factors. Another 10% are linked to inherited genetic mutations. Thanks to new research and new tools, we now have the ability to identify patients who may be at higher risk of developing certain cancers, and this information allows us to work with you to create a screening and prevention plan. For an individual, knowledge is power. Knowing your risk allows you to take steps to lower your risk
Our program includes a 60-minute initial comprehensive consultation that is appropriate for men and women with a personal or family history of cancer. The initial consultation includes a detailed family history and clinically validated risk algorithms to determine an individual’s risk of certain cancers, and if genetic testing for hereditary cancer is appropriate. Based on family history and, if appropriate, genetic testing and results, an individual screening and prevention plan will be developed.

Gene testing takes on many forms – from kits that can be purchased online or at local retail stores to clinically validated testing available only from a healthcare provider. Many people are confused by these options. At-home testing, such as 23andMe, is extremely limited and possibly misleading, and the results from this type of test are not intended to be used for medical management. Concierge Medicine of Cincinnati offers whole genome profiling through our Proactive Genetic Profile Screening Program for men and women.
Unlike at-home testing, our team works with you to understand your concerns, then reviews your personal and family medical history to determine if testing is right for you. We will review your risks for genetic disease and predispositions faced by you and your family members, identify lifestyle and environmental factors that can interact with genetic factors to influence your health, and develop a personalized plan for genetic testing, if appropriate.
Through a simple blood test, genomic profiling provides a greater understanding about your inherited risk of 45 inherited conditions associated with cancer, cardiovascular disease, and more. This information allows us to develop an individual wellness plan, including steps you can take to lower your risk.
Genetic testing, $475, is not included in the cost of the consult and is not currently covered by insurance.
